Time for a new pump
Well it's time to upgrade my pump (mini-med paradigm 512). Mini-med has served me well but I'm just curious about what others are using and why. Particularly, has anyone jumped from mini-med to another pump, and if so, what were the reasons? I'm in Texas so I don't generally have to deal with cold weather issues, though the majority of my backpacking is in the winter. Mostly heat, sand, water.. I usually disconnect when surfing, river/stream snorkeling, crossing streams, etc but have accidently forded forgetting my pump and having it totally submersed with no problems. As always, smaller and lighter would be better.
Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott -
As usual, it depends. Lots of good pumps out there and many of us here have weighed pros and cons of a number of latest models. If you aren't interested in an integrated CGMS, your total daily dose is not super high, you do water sports, you use temporary basals loads, your basal rates are low and finely tuned, your insurance will cover other pumps.....I would strongly suggest looking at the Animas 2020 pump. smaller, lighter, smarter than the equivalent MMM pump if you don't include the CGMS stuff in the discussion.
Jeff, Philippa and I have all debated these pumps as we recently moved to new(ish) pumps, too. Jeff and I are using the MMM 722 w/CGMS and Philippa is using the Animas 2020. Others have talked about and advocated the Roche Spirit and OmniPod. Get some loaners from the reps and try them out.
Cheers, dp
