Hi all there!!
On the occasion of November 14th, World Diabetes Day, I invited diabetic
kids, children pupils and parents for a guided walk in the National Museum
of Natural History in Sofia, where I work.
In the evening of that day there was a huge concert in the city biggest
hall (3000+ persons) organized by Novo Nordisk Bulgaria as part of the 61/225 UN
resolution on diabetes.
About 80 children (at age 3 to 17) came in the Museum before the concert.
I gave a talk about the 110-years history of the largest nature museum in
the Balkans, collections encompassing over 1 million samples and the
research expeditions which we are undertaking all over the world’s highest
mountains, deepest caves and remote wild nature.
I was very happy to answer all the questions from parents, who wanted their
children to hear my experience with diabetes management and training for
great climbs and deep caves. During the walk between the different floors I
became mad from all the questions and jokes about all the stuffed and living animals
on display in the exhibition [I CAN VERY WELL IMAGINE!! b/c I've been there, ed.].
At the end of the walk all the kids were much more open for questions and
all stayed after the Museum had closed for the day…I was tired but happy
to see the fire in the eyes of all the young who came and got a piece of
my strong determination to live better with diabetes!
