Greetings, MAD website beta testers. Hope you don't mind me signing you up for the newsletter, but it's the easiest way for me to let you know about updates. I am grateful for your feedback, and would like you to know about some changes.
- The text editor has changed from BUeditor to FCKeditor. The latter is true WYSIWYG, so you shouldn't have to think in HTML any more.
- A new module adds an images tab to nodes of the story and blog type. This means that after entering the text of a story or blog, you can click on the images tab and upload images in a very straightforward way. The images are then displayed as thumbnails at the top of the story or blog, and links are automatically run through the Lightbox gizmo, within which a viewer can use the left and right cursor keys to navigate through all the images. This approach does not allow images to be sprinkled among the text, but it does allow captions to be entered. If you need to embed an image in the text, you can use the inline method to link to an attachment. This is explained in the submission guidelines that appear when you go to create content.
- Because I have disabled the IMCE module that previously handled images, it is no longer possible to go to your personal files area and list what's there. However, uploaded images are now closely coupled to other content (delete the content and you delete the image file), so standalone access to the folder shouldn't be needed.
- I have added a site suggestions box to the menu. This is just a contact form that sends me an email. The software allows any number of these contact forms to be created for particular purposes.
- Finally, this update serves to test the newsletter system. Hope you got it!
Liz and I are heading off to Utah and Arizona at the end of this week, so I am reluctant to launch the new site before we get back (10 June) in case some major problems crop up. I am also acutely aware that we will need to migrate some good stories across from the old site, which will take time.
Not sure how the Wetpaint Wiki work is coming along, but if it is yielding any guidance as to how the FAQ and bibliogaphy should be laid out, I'm all ears!
Thanks again for your help in getting the site right; keep at it!
Andy
