dp news plus gossip
Hi all -
Been a mountain-quiet summer for me. BUT, I am planning a super short trip in a few weeks with DTB and will post a story with pics. I've had the worst A1c in years, but mostly b/c I have had virtually no hypos. Still using the CGMS and overall liking it. Having problems with insulin absorption (many dead zones) and looking for new "real estate" all the time. (change those infusion sets regularly!). Been riding my road bike enough to be reasonably fit and that's about it.
Now on to more exciting things to report on ----
Poor Boyan took a whipper at the end of June and broke his left ankle in a few places while doing a route with JG in Val di Mello. They were both planning an end of summer expedition to Pakistan to attempt a first free ascent of Eternal Flame on Trango Tower. The team is a star-studded group ready for the formidable challenge and hopefully some sponsorship finally came through. I presume that Boyan will be staying home to recover, but who knows with our crazy Bulgarian Spider.
This spring I reported on Sebastien Sasseville reaching the top of Everest. That makes him probably the fifth Type 1 to summit Everest. He presented at the DESA international conference recently held in Toronto, Canada attended by a number of MAD people, including Philippa and Lisa.
Lisa Seaman was recognized with a DESA /LifeScan honorable mention. Next year they will recognize her for what she deserves: the actual AWARD! She and partner Dan did some great spring ski mountaineering in Austria and posted a super nice blog with video and photos.
Mauro Sormani's cute face (and body) will be gracing the Medtronic annual report. He and Vito did a photo shoot at Finale Ligure and got in some great climbing too.
Katherine Brandt-Wells had a healthy baby boy a few weeks ago. And Elise (and Ramsay) are new parents, too!
Jeff Mazer has been skiing, SKIING gnarly couloirs all the way through the summer and I hope he will post a story soon.
As you saw in the story posted, Marco and Mattia had a successful ADIQ outing to the top of Monte Rosa leading a group of young diabetics and some docs.
Cheers to all and enjoy the rest of summer, dp
