Mountain climbs make a molehill of diabetes

Sad story

Hi all.  Thought this sad tale could be of interest to some of you.  Certainly there are more questions raised by the account below.  Was it DKA?  Unclear what the trek up Mt. Fuji had to do with Tyler's demise.
Bottom line is that each of us needs to communicate honestly with any group we join and talk about all aspects of diabetes management, if only to help educate others.

Happy Monday, dp

Sormani's Marcialonga

Well, Mauro is certainly unhappy with his performance last Sunday.  I'm still proud of him.  He complained to me about not being in good shape:  about not spending nearly enough time on the snow due to, well, lack of snow.  Anyway, I was still impressed to see him finish 109th overall for a 70km race in a respectable time of 3:42.   Perhaps Mauro will send us a story and some pictures.  I think he has another world loppet event on his calendar in the next month or so, but I forget where.

Bravo Mauro.

Peruffo On Top of Ama Dablam

Marco Peruffo summits the Kumbu dream summit - Ama Dablam on October 25, 2007!!  Bravo Marco!!

The climb was an "afterthought" after a little trek to Everest BC with wife Sara.  Their summit push was eleven hours and it took them seven long ones to get down.  Sounds like they did a stellar job.

Hats off to them.

MADiDEA 2007 WAS SUPER!!

Hello All.

By now, most of those who attended MADiDEA 2007 are at home and fondly reminiscing (even Sean!) about those days we spent together.  Nikki, Jeff and I are working through an "official" summary of events, but I just wanted to tell you all how much fun I had and how much of a good time you all missed who didn't or couldn't show.   Big thanks particularly to Jeff and Teri who busted their butts and truly made it all happen.  Well done!!

Diabetic and Determined is the title of the story....

Chris Jarvis Wins Gold!

Just saw that Chris Jarvis (type 1 since childhood) won a Gold medal with his partner, rowing for Canada, in the coxless pairs at the Pan American Games in Rio, Brazil.  Nice work, Chris!
