Jerry and Team Decide to Retreat

Tagged:

Well, the weather just seems to have sunken into Karakoram winter:  frozen, icy ropes, cold temps....Check out the Free Dream Blog site for the latest posting.  See links on my last blog posting on this site.

They did great and now let's hope they can find a way out of Pakistan!

Nice job Jerry and thanks for entertaining us during your adventure.  Any new plans for a better bag to keep your insulin from freezing?  The Marco bag didn't cut it?  Do tell.

Hi all -
Been a mountain-quiet summer for me.  BUT, I am planning a super short trip in a few weeks with DTB and will post a story with pics.  I've had the worst A1c in years, but mostly b/c I have had virtually no hypos.  Still using the CGMS and overall liking it.  Having problems with insulin absorption (many dead zones) and looking for new "real estate" all the time.  (change those infusion sets regularly!).  Been riding my road bike enough to be reasonably fit  and that's about it.

Another Type 1 on Everest

On May 25, 2008 Sebastien Sasseville, age 28, from Vancouver, Canada (diagnosed in 2002) reached the summit of Mount Everest. He has now become the first Canadian with Type One Diabetes to reach the top of Mount Everest and to climb all Seven Summits (according to Everestnews.com).

Sormani on FIRE at Masters World Championship

A little update for the curious.  I spoke with (super) Mauro yesterday and he had a fabulous trip out to McCall Idaho, USA for the 2008 Masters World Championships.  He was impressed with the venue and the quantity of snow!

More Will Cross

This article gives a better sense of Mr. Cross.....Enjoy.

Mountain climbs make a molehill of diabetes

Sad story

Hi all.  Thought this sad tale could be of interest to some of you.  Certainly there are more questions raised by the account below.  Was it DKA?  Unclear what the trek up Mt. Fuji had to do with Tyler's demise.
Bottom line is that each of us needs to communicate honestly with any group we join and talk about all aspects of diabetes management, if only to help educate others.

Sormani's Marcialonga

Well, Mauro is certainly unhappy with his performance last Sunday.  I'm still proud of him.  He complained to me about not being in good shape:  about not spending nearly enough time on the snow due to, well, lack of snow.  Anyway, I was still impressed to see him finish 109th overall for a 70km race in a respectable time of 3:42.   Perhaps Mauro will send us a story and some pictures.  I think he has another world loppet event on his calendar in the next month or so, but I forget where.

Bravo Mauro.

Will Cross plans to climb all the 8000ers, starting with Lohtse this spring and Cho Oyu in fall 2008.
